Paris is frequently recognized as one of the most beautiful cities in the world and it is also know for having some of the most romantic aesthetic features and atmospheres. These are pretty major claims, though they are typically not made by the residents but by tourists who declare them to be the truth about the city they have just visited. One of the common aspects of the city that contributes to the romantic atmosphere is the amount of great sidewalk cafes that exist and are known for their great pastries and wine selections. More than one marriage proposal has occurred in a cafe along one of the streets in the Saint-Germain-des-Pres district.
In fact the sidewalk cafes are so popular in the city that they are sometimes major tourists attractions themselves. Les Deux Magots is a great example and is famous for having been a popular rendezvous for the literary crowd. Surrealist artists are also famous for having frequented the place. And while a large number of the patrons found there today are guests in a Paris hotel , it was once a popular spot for writers such as Ernest Hemingway and Jean Paul Sartre . It is also known for having been frequented by Pablo Picasso. Albert Camus is another philosopher/writer who was known to patronage the cafe. These incredible greats of the literary and artistic fields are part of the reason so many people continue to flock to the cafe from all over the world.
