Cars and moves seem to go together as naturally as tires and wheels . A lot of that has to do with the fact that many movies represent real life and cars are an important part of daily life in much of the world. However, there are plenty of movies that feature cars as more than just background objects or scene settings. In some cases, the cars are secondary or even primary characters in film.
A classic example is the Volkswagon bug known as Herbie. From the original The Love Bug released in 1968 to the 2005 reboot, Herbie Fully Loaded, there have been over half a dozen films, tv shows and tv movies featuring the character. Other popular car characters include Chitty from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Lightening McQueen from the animated classic Cars and the newer Cars 2.
Whether they are sporting nankang tires , racing stripes, or are futuristic flying time machines, cars are an essential part of filmlore. Here are a few statistics:
Over 16,000 movies feature autos, over 100 of those are animated films.
Cars have appeared in over 600 documentaries, and 1700 television series.
Over 50,000 cars have been used in car chases by major characters.
Nearly 100 cars appear only in the trailer for a film and not in the actual movie
An average of 16 cars appear in any given movie.

There are stories that speak to a large community of world citizens, speaking of global concerns, and themes that seem to run through most places in most times. There are also smaller stories, ones that are more particular, and aimed at representing a small corner of reality where the light rarely reaches. In the best cases, in the best works of art, both things are possible at once, but it’s a very delicate balance.
Yet this is exactly what The Lyric Stage Company of Boston has set out to do, and after more than 35 years, they’ve gotten very successful at this. The mission is to produce provocative works and to give employment opportunities to the very talented theater community in the Boston area, and they’ve also been very good at fulfilling this mission as well. In 1990, a capitol campaign allowed them to move to their current space, and this suggests that they’ve both come a long way, but also stayed true to their original vision of 1974.
There are many cities that can tempt a visitor to come stay at the five star hotel. Boston is uniquely tempting, because its cultural scene is so very strong and interesting, and the city itself is a kind of living history of the country at large. It’s every bit as vibrant as it ever was, and perhaps even more so as the years begin to inform and influence the present, demanding the very best of the artists that live here right now.
Their current season offers some wonderful work that appeals to a very broad audience, as well as to those with specific interests, featuring musicals, dramas and comedies. And last season’s work, which featured Joan Didion ‘s book adapted for the stage, was a meditation of mortality that was enormously fitting for a Boston crowd, reminding us that grief is absolutely universal.
Boston Legal was one of the nation’s most popular television series that ran for five season between 2004 and 2008. It first aired on October 3 of 2004 and it’s final episode ran on December 8 of 2008. It is just one of the mainstream pop cultural aspects that featured Boston as its setting and whenever a city is the setting or sometimes even the subject of a major television series or film, tourism increasing greatly while it is being shown. And while the city of Boston has always had a great deal of tourist interest, the show brought a new population of visitors to the city. Many of the fine rooms in area hotels were filled with people who were interesting in visiting the law offices of Crane, Poole and Schmidt.
This is actually a typical response to a hit television series. People tend to be very interested in visiting the building that served as the location front for the program setting, even if the actual series or film wasn’t shot there. This is such a strong tendency in people that many tourists continue to pass by the house in Boulder, Colorado that served as the front of Mork and Mindy’s house in that popular series.
Boston Legal was a unique law drama that combined the dramatic story elements with something of an absurd natured comedy perspective. It had some powerhouse stars such as William Shatner , James Spader, Candice Bergen and John Larroquette just to name a few. The show was known for its original approach to script format and presentational style. One of the periodic occurrences was to break through the fourth wall. This is typically a phrase that is applied to theatrical productions. With the series characters would sometimes refer to themselves as characters or the series directly. The show also represented much of the pride associated with the city of Boston and commonwealth of Massachusetts and would deal with contemporary legal and social issues. Throughout the show’s run it won five Emmy Awards.
