Home design is about beauty and serenity — creating a wonderful living environment for one’s self and family. Many people undergo a design project solely with the aesthetic considerations in mind. They forget that things like window treatments are actually supposed to be functional as well as pretty to look at.
A good set of blinds will actually serve several different purposes. This starts with light protection or control. Unlike many curtains, which are lightweight or even sheer, blinds can be heavy and dark. They will effectively block out external light for anyone who needs to sleep in the daytime. They can be controlled to limit the amount of sun damage to rugs, furniture fabrics, artwork and even paint and wood floors. On the flip side, they can let in light and fresh air instead of blocking it the way that shutters do.
Another function of heavier vertical blinds is privacy. This includes blocking the interior of a home from external view. It also protects the home from the outside world by blocking out noise pollution.
Custom blinds offer an additional benefit in that they are able to provide an additional layer of insulation from the weather. Wood blinds and heavy fabric blinds can help block out cold winter winds as well as soaring summer heat. This can have a small, positive impact on home heating and cooling bills.
