The Kolb Brothers’ Grand Canyon Adventure

Posted by: admin

September 29th, 2010 >> Travel

For most people, the Grand Canyon is really a once in a lifetime event. Although it’s certainly possible to find things to do that could take the better part of a week, if not a month, Grand Canyon vacations are more often a singular journey that lasts a weekend. There are some, however, who do decide that they have to return at any cost, and find their way back to explore more of the endlessly fascinating place. There are also those who, captivated by what they see and the promise of endless delights of the senses, decide that this will become part of their life in a more essential way.

That’s certainly what happened to the Kolb Brothers . They left Pittsburgh at the turn of the century for Arizona, and when they found themselves at the Grand Canyon, they found what would be their life’s work. They were the first successful photography business in the state, and they made their fortune by taking photos of trekkers at the beginning of their journeys. The photo would be developed by the time they had left. They were also the first to make a motion picture of the canyon, and would travel around on a lecture circuit, captivating the world with their images and stories. Their legacy still lives here, and is observable first hand.

One of the new visual landmarks of England is the London Eye. Singapore’s version is much larger. In fact, the Singapore Flyer is the largest observation wheel in the world, standing 42 stories high with a diameter of 492 feet (150 meters). The 28 compartments can each hold 28 passengers and offers stunning 360 view of Singapore and the surrounding islands of Indonesia and Malaysia, a view of 28 miles on a clear day. This gigantic Ferris Wheel takes 37 minutes to complete one rotation.

Once visitors have completed their ride on the Flyer, they should delay returning to their hotel in Singapore and check out the rest of the site. The base of the Flyer is a 3 story Terminal filled with restaurants, shops, and bars. There is a flight simulator on the 2nd floor and an atrium with a tropical rainforest. The shopping and food are on par with the best Singapore has to offer. Shoppers can choose from concept and souvenier stores as well as leather and crocodile bags. Dining options include incredible views and local seafood. The Terminal even sports a fish spa.

The Singapore Flyer is located in Marina Bay and offere conference facilities and group events.

Beatles Costumes and Archetypes

It’s usually more than just a little fun to decide to dress up like famous people. The appeal of wearing a costume goes back for thousands of years, and nearly every culture has its own traditions and rituals that involve becoming something else for a little while. In contemporary times, some might lament the loss of ritual in these events, but the ritual really never leaves them.

It’s present in every conceivable costume, whether it’s a Fairy of any kind, zombies and other other monsters, and even in Beatles Costumes . In fact, the Beatles might be helpful in putting this notion of ritual into sharp relief. The Fab Four are not just the darlings of their fans, but reflect a broad cross-section of culture. In many regards, they can be seen as archetypes, those figures that stand for something elemental, that inhabit a dream world as much as any other.

Ringo is the quiet one, awkward and cute, but also carrying a large degree of chaos in his interior. George is the introspective one, walking through the world as a spiritual seeker, perpetually innocent and open to new ideas. Paul is the rational one, who occasionally is given to flights of fancy, but manages to always land with his feet on the ground. John is the trickster , with multiple faces, and demonstrating a dexterity in crossing over realms and circumstances like Mercury. Inhabiting the costumes, then, are ways of waking these principles up, or at least for having a fun time at any party.

Healing Attitudes and Medical Equipment in the Home

There are hundreds of aphorisms that deal directly with health. Laughter is the best medicine , of course, is one of the most well-known, but there are dozens more that come to mind. The reason that these sayings are so common is because sickness is also very common. While laughter is one excellent way to promote health and wellness , there are dozens more.

If there are any common links between the sayings, one of the most important link has to do with awareness of the sickness itself. Acceptance and consciousness are two excellent tools that can help all the members of a household to deal with any kind of illness. Seeing it as something that’s part of every day life can help the family members to understand that they are not victims. It’s also a good strategy for the person who is getting well, because they feel both acknowledged and accepted.

This is related both to the idea of sickness and health as well as to the objects in the home. Accepting the person who is healing for who they are, along with any other member of the house, and accepting the necessity for medical equipment as something as important as food can be ways of making the situation manageable. Accepting things the way they are is a way toward understanding that there is nothing to resolve, that everything is exactly as it’s supposed to be. This is one of the key attitudes for the promotion of healing.

Seeking Out Expert Advice

September 16th, 2010 >> Self Improvement

Few people respond well to unsolicited advice, although many times such advice is offered simply to be helpful or friendly. A parent, friend, or even a stranger may offer advice because they feel they can help and improve your life, if not forever, at least for today. Advice may be offered just as a means to stay connected with others or to start a conversation. Sometimes, too, people are so happy about how something has worked for them, they wish to share with others. There’s no reason to be upset by these reasons, although there are less well-motivated reasons for advice-giving.

Sometimes, people just need to feel needed, and so share their knowledge; they may be narcissistic , just wishing to hear themselves pontificate; but sometimes there are even darker reasons, such as wanting to demonstrate a dominance over you (i..e., I know better than you), or passing judgment upon a behavior (i.e., social groups attempting to control the behavior of people outside their group,). Some people simply have a desire to engage in drama (i.e., people who love conflict and like to hear themselves debate or argue an issue).

If you really need expert advice , though, it’s best to ignore any advice that you didn’t ask for; but, instead, seek out those people, whether they be parents, counselors, or doctors who have the knowledge you need without self-interest or condemnation. Advice from strangers is okay, too, as long as you know that stranger’s credentials, such as those available on Internet expert sites.

Everyone has a particular hero or role model growing up that they have posters of hanging from their walls and music playing on the stereo. Or, they have their hero’s book or film collection . Regardless of the genre from which we draw our role models, almost every child has a super figure in their lives that they look up to an adore. And it is usually these figures that dominate the visual aspects of most children’s rooms.

Of course some children are more thematic oriented interests, such as animals, dolls, cars, airplanes, etc. But regardless of what your children is interested in, they love to have their favorite person or them represented in their room. And one of the most popular ways to do that today is with fleece photo blankets .

Who wouldn’t love to have their favorite movie star or rock star on the blanket they cover up with every night? And of course there are many other possibilities too. Having your intimate partner’s picture on a comfortable fleece blanket can keep you warm if your loved one is away or out of town. It can even be fun if they are laying right there next to you. And of course any grandma would love to see a photo of their precious grandchild on the front of a nice blanket.

Tampa has nature to nightlife, theme parks to theaters, and waterways to wildlife, something for everyone. Tampa Bay is a very vibrant waterfront city where visitors can spend days exploring all the culture including parades to performing arts, shopping to sunsets, and the city has a perfect hotel to fit anyone’s needs.

Tampa was recently awarded the ‘Top Arts Destination’ by the American Style Magazine. From Tampa’s critically acclaimed opera and orchestra, to independent and foreign film festivals, to a stellar Broadway series and a wonderful array of museums, Tampa is a rising star and is beginning to surpass Miami’s cultural scene and soon all of Florida.

The Tampa Museum of Art just opened in February of 2010 in downtown Tampa and is now providing the region with world-class traveling exhibitions. Their collection of contemporary and classical will continue to expand alongside their educational programs. The museum also has access to scenic outdoor events along Tampa’s Riverwalk.

The Advent of LED Christmas Lights makes for a Magical Wonderland

When you begin stringing up your outdoor Christmas lights, position your ladder on an even surface. If you are using pre-installed nails or hooks, then you can plug-in your lights ahead of time. This way it will be easier to visually see how the lights look without having to constantly go up and down the ladder.

If you are installing nails or hooks for the first time, you’ll need to have the hooks or nails installed first; don’t do both at the same time. It’s too risky having to hammer in a nail while holding up a string of lights. If you don’t like ladders, go online and order a hanging kit that doesn’t require a ladder for installation. The kit includes plastic eaves clips that make hanging up LED Christmas lights a breeze, even in your trees!

After you’ve completed hanging up your Christmas lights on your home and in your trees, you can move on to larger items for your yard such as standing figurines, animated figures, air-blown inflatable figures, lighted topiaries and so much more. Due to the advent of LED Christmas lights, a whole new Christmas yard decoration industry has sprung up. The variety and amount of Christmas yard items is almost limitless.

Finally, make sure to secure all outdoor Christmas yard decorations, especially if you live in an area that gets heavy winter storms.
