For all the natural wonders of the world, the Grand Canyon holds a special place for many people from different walks of life. Naturalists love to learn about the canyon, as it gives unprecedented views of a complex world, and one that puts the rest of the world into relief. Tourists have a fondness for it, because it offers some spectacular ways to spend a day, or days, enjoying the views or exploring it on a deeper level. Artists love it because there are so many surfaces to paint, and an infinite number of nooks and crannies that offer inspirations galore. For all of these people a good Grand Canyon map can be a very powerful tool.

It serves the same functions as any map, offering a representation to make it easier to navigate, but a map of the Grand Canyon can have other uses as well. Like most geographic maps , they can be used as references later, for scientific reasons, or simply out of curiosity, to spark the memories of a recent trip. A map can also give a larger picture, so that all the layers of history contained in its walls can be seen in a reasonable light. For most people, the first view of the canyon is overwhelming, and it’s almost impossible to begin to understand. Referring to a map can take away the bewilderment, in order to make way for a deeper understanding.
