Resting in Formentera

I didn’t think I really needed to call up a Formentera car rental place, because Formentera looks like a croissant crumb on the world map . It’s only 11 miles tip to tip, but boy, I’m sure glad I did hire a car. There’s not much here compared to Ibiza or Mallorca, but that’s exactly why I came here.  It’s unspoiled paradise. I see where biking is easy enough to do here, but I’m not much of a biker, I’d be afraid I’d fall off or crash somewhere and end up in hospital. But, with a car, for some reason, I feel safer.

After I checked in to my hotel, I headed down to the marina and thought I’d see if boating around Formentera seem plausible. I participated in a quick discussion on how to outfit and handle a boat in and out of rough weather. I learned about what sorts of weather I’d run into, like rogue waves, lighting, waterspouts and the gear I’d need, like rigging for more safely dealings with lighting, escape hatches and boy, I must say, I don’t know if I want to boat by myself after hearing about all that can go wrong, because the weather here in Formentera can seem absolutely perfect, then, whamo! A sudden lightening storm appears.

So, I decided I’d just beach it while I’m here. I had a couple of good swims. But the next day, the were some crazy big swells. I nearly freaked because I inhaled some ocean water. So, I decided to just tool around the eleven miles in my car and stop at what I thought was a point of interest or pulled into a restaurant and ate the special of the day. For the most part, I really like Formentera, it’s so much more laid-back than the rest of the Balearic Islands. I highly recommend it after clubbing it to the max in Ibiza. It’s a welcomed rest.
