Mumbai on the Fly
We stayed at one of the hotels in Mumbai, which was our first choice, our second choice was right next door where we stayed on our prior trip last year. So, when we saw how much better this hotel was compared to the one we stayed in last year, we were really happy to be at this hotel this year. This one overlooks the ocean and it’s close to all the action, right where we want to be, in walking distance of all of central Mumbai.
We rested in our hotel room, first floor and with a view of the sea . After a nap and after my anger subsided about our ordeal with our taxi wallah trying to rip us off with an outrageous taxi fare, I really wanted to report that taxi driver, but I knew that would be an all day affair, taking precious time away from our holiday, dealing with bureaucratic hell in a police station and then they’d probably do nothing about it anyway. But, man, it took me days before I could actually let go of the idea. My wife finally convinced me that there was better ways to spend my time. I just don’t like the idea of tourists being scammed.
When we first came to Mumbai last year, we stayed with our good friend Sudhama and his immediate family. He had been living in London recently, so we weren’t sure if we would be able to see him on this trip. My wife and I first met Sudhama in Seattle, we all attended the same University. He was one of my wife’s earliest supported and he also supported my DJing career. He’d attend all my weekly shows at a cafe, and then he’d come to all our large dance parties at a Ballroom and at a dance studio. We hadn’t seen him since our last visit to Mumbai over 4 years ago. He called us in our hotel room, it was great to hear his voice again after so many years. We made plans for the next day and then my wife and I caught a taxi for way too much money to go down to Marine Drive to the Cream Center. It’s a 40 year old vegetarian restaurant that serves hygienic snack food to the up and coming middle class, including a very funky fusions and what I consider the best nachos I’ve ever eaten. We were still tired from our trip, so we headed back to our hotel room and rested. Waiting excitedly to meet with our good friend Sudhama.
